According to a media source, Singapore is preparing to employ 180 young physicians from India over the next three years, a decision that has drawn criticism from many. Singapore MOH Holdings (MOHH), a corporation of Singapore′s public healthcare institutions, stated that Singapore has been hiring physicians from outside to help with the "high workload" here and to fill its healthcare capacity needs. A tender set to close on October 10 revealed a target to recruit 60 medical officers from India yearly from 2022 to 2024, with the possibility of extending the plan to 2025.

The company claimed that it is seeking applicants who have a medical degree from one of the institutions mentioned in the Medical Registration Act. Similarly, locals who have graduated from medical schools approved by the Singapore Medical Council will be given priority.

On the other hand, a number of internet users have already questioned the choice to "import" Indian physicians, some of whom have expressed concerns about false certification. Also, Dr. Jeremy Lim, Associate Professor from the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, raised another concern, stating that the hiring of foreign health professionals by wealthy nations like Singapore raises concerns that "the rich world takes away valuable personnel from less well-staffed countries."

In response, the company stated that it hires roughly 700 junior physicians annually, 90% of whom are Singapore citizens and either had their training in Singapores medical schools or are returning Singaporeans who received their training at reputable foreign medical institutions.
